Sorry for the depressing post!
Anyway, just thought I would show this casual outfit. There was discussion in the FA world after Fatshion February about fat bloggers only really showcasing more dressy outfits, because there are uncomfortable feelings about fat women in casual clothes. I find this show interesting as it raised many questions about how we present our bodies to the world, and how they are received. Fat women are more readily accepted if they are presented well, but our job at fat activists is to change preconceived notions of fat bodies, and I think one of the ways in doing this is to showcase them in many different ways, including in everyday casual clothes. I blog mostly dressy outfits, but in my defence, it's because I'm usually overdressed. However, this is probably because of the way more body is deemed more acceptable when it is.
I just wore this outfit today to drive to the next town over to do a little shopping and to visit Fred's dad. It was raining and pretty gross and I really wanted to be comfortable, so this outfit came together out of that.
Cardigan and shoes - Walmart; Tops, Jeans - Evans; Belt - Dorothy Perkins
Sorry for the bad picture quality! It's hard to get a decent photograph in such gloomy weather!
The shoes and jeans are new. The jeans I got last week from Evans during the sale. I really love the look and feel of boyfriend jeans - they are a classic shape and add a touch of casual cool to any outfit. I sized up because they have no stretch, which was good because they just fit my giant calves, haha, but are much too large on the waist as a result. Apart from the slightly strange fit because of my weird proportions, I love these jeans. It's a change from the more dressy wide-leg or flare, or the trendy skinnies (both of which I still love, but it's nice to mix it up now and again).
Hopefully, I'll feel better and be able to update more regularly soon. Would you guys prefer to see outfits more often - say 3-4 times a week - including more casual outfits, or 1 to 2 times a week with the more dressy/fashionable outfits?

super cute!!!
we missed your posts!looking cute as usual. ^^
Yeah! You're back and with BLACK HAIR! Wooo! Looking FAB! I love boyf jeans - I have a pair from last year which I wear a LOT!
I really don't feel it is casual, it just is as cute as always and I love this top! Maybe it doesn't feel like casual for me, because I always feel like a black pair of leggings with a nice dress is a looot more comfortable then wearing jeans...so jeans and t-shirt never feel that casual to me.
Your hair is dark again, I didn't know this. But look great never the less.
Also regarding to this discussion. Yes you are right, I feel that too. Even if I don't want to, dressing up make me feel better about my body...
its interesting to note that what is casual for one person is still pulled-together for another person.
yknow, i had never really thought about it before, but the concept of plus-sized bloggers only posting dressier outfits is more interesting. i havent always been plus-sized -- in fact i was quite thin growing up, and i think i did feel more comfortable in more casual clothes back then. nowadays, i do feel the need to be a little more pulled together. i always figured it was more an effect of growing older (which perhaps it still is) but i can see that it may also be an effect of having gained weight.
in the end, regardless of my size, whether im dressed up or down, i do still want to look my best.
i would love to see you post as often as you feel comfortable, in any sort of outfit. in light of the "plus-sized dressy" theory, i think we would be just as happy to see you in jeans as in skirts and dresses -- i could use inspiration for my casual looks too!
Ohhh, yeah, my hair! Totally forgot I changed it! Haha. It's yet another source of frustration right now though, as I'm trying to grow it out a little into a ear length bob so it's at a super awkward stage and looks like poo 65% of the time :(
Thank you for the compliments though :D xo
I'm sure getting a little older has something to do with wanting to be more pulled-together, for sure! That's such a good point. It's also interesting that with your reply and Katrin's you both comment that this isn't a casual look per se. Which I find so interesting! I guess we really do have different definitions of dressed-down/-up. I guess what I meant was that I wasn't wearing make-up, or a dress, or something equally "dressy." Light wash jeans always scream casual to me too. Anyway, I have a point here! Haha. My point is that even though this is casual it's still pulled-together, I guess, which still influences how I'm perceived by people, compared to if I went out in Lululemons and a hooded sweatshirt (which would be totally acceptable for a slim woman to do but I would definitely get looks (at least) because of the association of being out-of-control and sloppy that the fat body in our culture.
Yeah, dressing up always makes me feel good about my body too, which is in stark contrast to 2 years ago when I absolutely resented having to dress up because I thought I looked like shit and could never find anything to fit my body. Such a change.
And thank you :) It's funny you don't see this as casual, but I know what you mean for sure. Just the jeans scream casual for me! I live in dresses and leggings usually too, especially when I'm not going out anywhere... so maybe those are our sweatpants and t-shirts, haha.
Thanks, Gazel :)
Thank you!
oh the black is back!
You look cute! In regards to the post; just being new to blogging.....I love kinda getting dressed up and mucking around at different locations....I do it for the asthetic quality of the photos.... and for me...its fun....
but I also like to post a lot of pictures with friends as most of these are in casual clothes....I like these photos because they make me smile....
I guess I just try to be me....because its so easy to censor yourself or protray yourself in a certain light...or to try and be what you think followers would like to see...... obviously when your sharing yourself with the world you want to be viewed in a positive way....but I also know that most days as I walk off to school in my teacher clothes, I wouldnt care if people saw me or photographed me....I still like me casual or pulled together....
I hope it stops raining.....Now I have Annies song in my head "The sun will come out tomorrow, betcha bottom dollar that tomorrowwwww....."

I think everyone has had a rough couple of months. What's with this, 2011?! Anyways, you look absolutely gorgeous. The dark hair definitely suits you and is totally chic. Really love those jeans, and that bow belt with the top is so cute. Casual looks good on you :)!
See, I don't view your outfit as necessarily 'casual' because you look sharp and put-together in it. Just because someone's wearing jeans doesn't necessarily mean the outfit is casual, imho, especially if they put it together with a cute top and shoes, as you've done. In other words, I think it's perfectly possible to dress 'casually,' but look sharp and put-together. 'Casual,' to me, suggests an outfit that's sloppy, without any thought put into it - i.e., throwing on a pair of jeans that don't fit well, a shapeless top or t-shirt, and sloppy sneakers; or a shapeless, baggy skirt, oversized top and sloppy flip flops. One can look sloppy and un-put-together in a skirt.
You are so right about big women only being acceptable when dressed fancy. I have a blog too and I thought id post it in some fashion forum to get a couple of more viewers, my posts are all mostly just casual or fun outfits to wear, nothing fancy, i post dressy stuff but not nearly enough as casual, because i made it just to give people ideas about casual outfits...and I just got soooooooooo chewed up in that forum because of that..it was really ridiculous, i couldnt even believe the hate i was getting...so insane! but yeah i totally feel you. and your outfit is very pretty, i love the top on those jeans :) Really dig your blog too!
